About The Position

Select Specialty Hospital - Hampton Roads is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to provide care at its critical illness recovery hospital in Newport News, Virginia. The hospital provides inpatient post-ICU services to chronically and critically ill patients who require extended healing and recovery. Respiratory Therapists provide compassionate treatment to patients during vulnerable periods of their recovery.

This is a per diem position with day and night shifts available. Compensation is $45.00 per hour, with a $7,500 sign-on bonus. The hospital offers an extensive orientation program and the possibility of future full-time opportunities. Part-time and per diem employees may qualify for 401(k) participation after reaching 1,000 hours within their first anniversary or a subsequent calendar year.

Requirements

• Possess an active CRT or RRT credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) or state equivalent.
• Provide proof of graduation: college transcript or diploma preferred, or high school transcript or diploma or GED.
• Possess Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the start date.
• Hold current state licensure.
• Have ACLS certification upon hire; agency Respiratory Therapists must have ACLS by their first shift.

Nice To Haves

• One year of related experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients and recommend appropriate treatment plans.
• Provide respiratory care to patients with critical and complex medical and surgical conditions.
• Insert and remove endotracheal tubes.
• Promote continuous quality improvement.
• Teach and counsel patients and families.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
