About The Position

Select Specialty Hospital - Hampton Roads is a critical illness recovery hospital providing inpatient post-ICU services to chronic, critically ill patients who require extended healing and recovery. The Respiratory Therapist provides compassionate respiratory care to patients with critical and complex medical and surgical conditions. This is a per-diem position in Newport News, Virginia, with day and night shifts available, paying $45.00 per hour. A $7,500 sign-on bonus is offered. The hospital provides an extensive orientation program and notes that per-diem positions may lead to potential full-time opportunities. Part-time and per-diem employees may be eligible for 401(k) after reaching 1,000 hours within their first anniversary or a subsequent calendar year.

Requirements

• Possess an active CRT or RRT credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) or state equivalent.
• Provide proof of graduation: college transcript or diploma preferred, or high school transcript or diploma, or GED.
• Possess Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the start date.
• Hold current state licensure.
• Hold ACLS certification upon hire; agency respiratory therapists must have ACLS by their first shift.

Nice To Haves

• One year of related experience is preferred.
• College transcript or diploma is preferred as proof of graduation.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients and recommend appropriate treatment plans.
• Provide respiratory care to patients with critical and complex medical and surgical conditions.
• Perform insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes.
• Promote continuous quality improvement.
• Teach and counsel patients and families.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
