About The Position
The Respiratory Therapist Student participates in a learning experience designed to develop confidence and competence in clinical skills to facilitate a smooth transition into a licensed role after graduation. This role assists students in finding an area of respiratory therapy practice that best fits their career goals, talents and interests. The student will be under supervision by an licensed professional in his/her specialty to strengthen clinical skill sets.
Requirements
- Must be a student enrolled in a respiratory therapy or polysomnography technology education program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, its successor organization, or another nationally recognized accrediting organization.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine duties while being supervised by their preceptor.
- Administer Nebulizer and MDI treatments.
- Draw arterial blood gases.
- Set patients up on invasive and noninvasive ventilation (Ventilators/CPAP/BiPAP).
- Provide Incentive Spirometer instructions.
- Perform Chest physiotherapy (via Metaneb, Aerobika, vest machine or manual CPT).
- Suction tracheostomy patients and those on ventilators.
- Assist with intubation.
- Perform CPR.
- Listen to breath sounds.
- Assist in developing the patient respiratory treatment plan.
- Perform Trach cares.
- Clean and set up RT equipment.
