About The Position

The Respiratory Support Technician provides comprehensive direct and indirect patient care across home, office, and hospital environments, following governmental, accrediting, and organizational policies and procedures. The role ensures patients receive appropriate goods and services efficiently and satisfactorily. The technician also serves as a subject matter expert, conducts new-hire training, and mentors team members. The position includes working with respiratory patients and department staff to set up, fit, explain, maintain, and troubleshoot respiratory equipment. It also involves patient follow-up, accurate completion of required documentation, supporting reimbursement and billing documentation, maintaining confidentiality and infection-control practices, and contributing to quality improvement. The position requires travel throughout the service area, use of a personal vehicle, and the ability to access patients’ residences. Work may extend beyond normal business hours and may involve extended hours when required.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid and unrestricted driver’s license from the state of residence.
Ability to perform repetitive wrist, hand, and/or finger motions due to extensive computer use.
Ability to lift 50 pounds as needed and assist in pulling a patient weighing approximately 130 pounds to a sitting position.
Ability to work outside normal business hours and be available for extended hours when required.
Ability to travel throughout the service area and use a personal vehicle.
Ability to access patients’ residences as needed.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with internal and external customers, demonstrating empathy, compassion, courtesy, and respect for privacy.
Mental alertness to perform the essential functions of the position.
Ability to utilize a personal computer and other office equipment.
Ability to work in an environment that may be stressful and involve long periods of sitting, computer-screen exposure, hazardous materials, loud noise, extreme temperatures, potentially infectious pathogens, or angry or irate customers, patients, or referral sources.
Company-conducted background check is required for all roles.
Company-conducted motor vehicle record check is required for driving roles.
Clinical roles require valid licensure or certification where applicable.
For positions located in California that require on-site presence at an HMDR facility, candidates must obtain a California Department of Public Health Exemptee License and include proof of required training with the license application or disclose their intent to obtain it.

Nice To Haves

Work-related construction, general manual labor, military, equipment repair, or maintenance skills may be considered related experience.
Experience performing the listed tasks in a Medicare-certified HME environment that routinely bills insurance is considered exact job experience.
Knowledge of respiratory therapy or DME services.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with Respiratory Department Staff, CPAP/BIPAP Program Managers, and Operations Managers to provide respiratory equipment instruction, service, and troubleshooting.
Set up and fit PAP patients with appropriate equipment and masks, and communicate instructions professionally and clearly.
Conduct patient follow-up calls and visits to support optimal care outcomes; contact clinical support when urgent needs are identified during home visits.
Perform routine preventative maintenance checks and simple repairs according to company policy and manufacturer guidelines; troubleshoot equipment failures professionally.
Report equipment hazards and product incidents according to company policies and procedures.
Maintain working knowledge of current Respiratory Programs and HME products and services.
Accurately and promptly complete required company, insurance, and government paperwork, including delivery tickets, safety checklist forms, patient booklet receipts, ABNs, AMAs, and equipment-specific instruction and cleaning forms.
Develop and maintain basic reimbursement knowledge to support proper billing documentation.
Protect patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA guidelines and AdaptHealth’s Compliance Program, including assigned compliance training and educational programs.
Follow procedures for PPE, infection control, and hazardous materials handling.
Assist with implementation of quality improvement programs to meet company standards.
Promote services and products to community referral sources as appropriate.
Conduct new-hire training and mentor team members.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
