About The Position

This position involves working three 12-hour shifts per week in the Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics department. The department has every third-weekend rotation, and candidates need to be willing to work some holidays. Responsibilities include working in ICUs and on hospital floors. As BJH is a teaching hospital, there may be occasional opportunities to precept respiratory therapy students. The role requires experience with Epic charting.

Requirements

  • RRT credentials
  • BLS certification
  • Missouri Respiratory Care Practitioner License
  • 2 years of experience

Responsibilities

  • Care for and treat patients with acute and chronic respiratory diseases.
  • Manage mechanically ventilated patients.
  • Work in ICUs and on hospital floors.
  • Precept respiratory therapy students (occasionally).
  • Perform Airway Management: Endotracheal tube/suctioning, Extubation, Nasal airway suctioning, Oral airway placement, Oropharyngeal/suctioning, Sputum specimen collection, Tracheostomy/suctioning.
  • Administer Medications: Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Inhaled Flolan, Inhaled steroids, Lidocaine, Nitric Oxide (INo), Pulmicort, Racemic epinephrine, Xopenex.
  • Utilize Medication Delivery Systems: Aerosol set up mask, Aerosol set up trach, Metered dose inhaler.
  • Operate Nebulizers: Hand held, T-piece, Trach collar, Ultrasonic.
  • Provide Oxygen Therapy: High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC).
  • Perform Ventilator Management: BiPAP, CPAP, Troubleshooting high pressure alarms, Weaning from mechanical ventilation.
  • Interpret ABGs.
  • Float within scope to meet facility needs, including working in ICUs and floors.
