About The Position

Collaborates with the Office of Science PreK-12 and the outdoor science team in the development and implementation of outdoor science programs, which support the Baltimore County Publics Schools (BCPS) Curriculum, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and the system-wide strategic plan. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Three years’ teaching experience.
  • Possession of a Maryland Educator Professional Certificate appropriate to the area of assignment.
  • OR Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Educator Professional License appropriate to the area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional practices in science K-12.
  • Thorough knowledge of science, including life, earth and the physical sciences.
  • Knowledge of and skill in the use of databases, Internet, spreadsheet, word processing, and related applications.
  • Knowledge of and skill in data analysis.
  • Demonstration of strong human relations skills.
  • Demonstration of effective organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive team attitude.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Requires attendance at after-school/evening or occasional weekend meetings and events.
  • Includes the ability to transport job materials between outdoor sites, schools and offices.
  • Requires fingerprinting and a criminal background investigation.
  • Must provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
  • If military experience, provide a copy of DD214.
  • Official transcripts will be required upon hire and must be sent via e-script/clearinghouse from your university.
  • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
  • All newly hired personnel must attend a Benefits and Retirement Orientation meeting.
  • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in outdoor science education preferred.
  • Possession of CPR certification, First Aid Training, Canoe Instructor Certification, Water Safety Training, and Anaphylaxis Training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements systemwide K–12 science curricula and programs aligned with the NGSS and Maryland Environmental Literacy Standards.
  • Develops meaningful pre- and post-field study resources that are aligned to standards.
  • Teaches a variety of indoor and outdoor programs at the elementary and secondary level at a variety of outdoor education sites or schools. These activities could include hiking, canoeing, and other outdoor educational activities.
  • Delivers ongoing professional development and provides teacher and school support.
  • Works cooperatively and collaboratively with all members of the Office of Science and other staff.
  • Maintains a mastery level understanding of the NGSS, Maryland Environmental Literacy Standards, and effective science instructional practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
