About The Position

The Resource Specialist provides support to District Operations to ensure all programs offered by TFS are administered within the District. This role involves supporting the District Forester with the delivery of Field Operation programs, which may include preparing maps, collecting data, interacting with clientele, drafting management plans, capacity building, and conservation education. A significant aspect of the role is serving as a wildland firefighter and/or emergency responder on a statewide basis, involving the operation of heavy firefighting equipment, use of hand tools, and ground reconnaissance on wildfires. The employee is responsible for managing assigned credit cards, vehicles, and equipment, ensuring they are maintained in good working order. A critical requirement is meeting and annually maintaining a physical fitness standard, including completing a two-mile walk with a pack and obtaining required NWCG training and Red Card Certification. The employee must be available 24 hours a day via a communication device and respond to dispatch within 30 minutes of an emergency notification.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• PC -based programs and software.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
• Valid Texas CDL Class A or ability to obtain one within 180 days of date of hire.

Nice To Haves

• FFT-1, TLP-1 (tractor operation under NWCG)

Responsibilities

• Supports District Forester with delivery of Field Operation programs.
• Prepares tract and stand maps.
• Collects property and stand data.
• Direct interaction with clientele.
• Drafting of management plans.
• Capacity building.
• Conservation education (including teaching and working with children and adults in an outdoor classroom environment).
• Fire prevention and special projects.
• Serve as a wildland firefighter and/or emergency responder on a statewide basis.
• Operation of heavy firefighting equipment.
• Use of hand firefighting tools.
• Perform ground reconnaissance on wildfires.
• Manage and account for assigned credit cards, vehicles, and equipment.
• Maintain vehicles and equipment in good working order and properly serviced.
• Meet and annually maintain a physical fitness standard which includes successfully completing a two-mile walk in 30 minutes or less with a 25-pound pack and obtaining required NWCG training and Red Card Certification.
• Carry a communication device to facilitate 24-hour availability.
• Respond to dispatch within 30 minutes of receiving an emergency call, notification, or alert.
• Other duties as assigned.
