About The Position

The Resource Nurse role is designed to provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care across various acute care units, including medical-surgical, telemetry, and intensive care. This position serves as a clinical resource for nursing staff, offering guidance on complex patient cases and hands-on support for advanced procedures like ultrasound-guided IV insertion. The nurse will float between units based on patient needs and staffing demands, perform specialized vascular access procedures, and contribute to the onboarding and mentoring of new staff. Responsibilities also include responding to emergencies, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, ensuring accurate documentation, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and staying current with hospital protocols. Additionally, the role involves conducting audits of nursing documentation and participating in various meetings.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
  • Minimum 3 years of acute care nursing experience, with demonstrated proficiency in multiple specialties or units.
  • Documented experience in ultrasound-guided IV insertion.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • Strong assessment, communication, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new clinical environments and shifting priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Vascular access certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients in various acute care units, including medical-surgical, telemetry, and intensive care.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for nursing staff, advising on complex cases and providing hands-on support for advanced procedures, including ultrasound-guided IV insertion.
  • Float seamlessly between units based on patient acuity, census, and staffing demands.
  • Perform ultrasound-guided peripheral IV insertions, troubleshoot difficult IV access cases, and educate staff on best practices for vascular access.
  • Assist with onboarding and mentoring of new or temporary staff.
  • Respond to emergency situations and provide critical support during code events or periods of high census.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and ancillary departments to coordinate and optimize patient care.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all patient care activities, including advanced procedures.
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, especially those related to vascular access and infection prevention.
  • Remain current with hospital protocols, policies, and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Conduct concurrent (during the hospital stay) and retrospective (post-discharge) audits to verify completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of nursing notes.
  • Participate in hospital and department meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
