About The Position

This position is accountable for reviewing plans and specifications to ensure acceptable detailing and to determine material requirements for the Day Labor road/bridge repair and construction program. This position is also responsible for managing the Day Labor section’s facilities and services involving the coordination of all facility repairs, programs, and the enhancement of Day Labor facilities and maintenance of services contracts affecting day-to-day operations. This position is also responsible for managing day-to-day facility operations including but not limited to building repairs and maintenance; procuring equipment, supplies and commodities needed for facility operations; and managing all services and contracts involving Day Labors infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS six years of engineering experience; OR eight years of engineering experience.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires occasional statewide travel to project sites.
  • Requires occasional overnight stays.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years’ experience in highway construction work.
  • Five years’ experience of reviewing plans and specifications related to construction projects.
  • Two years’ experience of procuring materials, equipment, and services related to construction projects and/or building maintenance.
  • Engineering coursework specialized in Construction Management, Business Administration, or Civil Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of the use of construction materials, vehicles, and equipment related to road/bridge repair and construction.
  • Working knowledge and background in the trades industry HVAC, Electrical, carpentry, roofing and plumbing.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and analyzes repair plans for accuracy and to determine material needs.
  • Monitors procurement activities to ensure bids for products and supplies are awarded, delivered, inspected and processed for payment in a timely fashion.
  • Monitors current facilities for early detection and prevention of problems.
  • Develops, and coordinates with Capital Development Board to effectively manage Day Labor’s future building improvement needs.
  • Organizes with Capital Improvement and the Supplies and Services Manager to maintain current facility project improvements.
  • Works closely with the Equipment Manager to maintain Day Labor’s fleet equipment. Rendering trade in equipment to maintain Fleet size in accordance with policy.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
  • Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
