Resilience Planning Intern
About The Position
Black & Veatch has an exciting opportunity for a Risk & Resilience Planning Internship focused on supporting hazard mitigation, disaster preparedness and recovery, climate adaptation, land use and community resilience planning and risk assessment throughout the US. This intern will be part of the growing BV Planning Solution focused on Community Resilience. Their role will be to provide technical excellence to deliver resilience-related projects with opportunities to engage with clients and support business development. With a focus on developing BV’s presence in the resilience market, this intern will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to support projects related to climate adaptation/mitigation, vulnerability assessments, hazard mitigation planning, coastal and sea level rise strategies, and resilient infrastructure system solutions.
Requirements
- No experience required.
- Current enrollment at a university in related program of specialty.
- All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Nice To Haves
- Ability to analyze complex situations and provide solutions.
- Bachelors degree in geospatial data sciences, remote sensing or Urban and regional Planning.
- Practical experience related to hazard mitigation, resilience, disaster preparedness & recovery, coastal and sea level rise impacts
- Practical experience related to community resilience planning
Responsibilities
- Actively support the Community Resilience GIS team in hazard vulnerability and risk assessment analysis for hazard mitigation, resilience and disaster recovery plans
- Lead and support innovative data analysis and communication via StoryMaps, dashboards, website integration for stakeholder communication and outreach
- Learn the use and applications of FEMA risk assessment platform, Hazus
- Support risk communication efforts through coordinated stakeholder outreach strategies
- Support the development and advancements of risk assessment tools and methodologies
- Support and coordinate risk assessment, hazard mitigation and disaster recovery planning
- Support client and stakeholder workshops
- Provide task leadership to deliver Resilience Planning solutions/studies/projects
- Support engagement with new and existing clients to develop new business for BV
