About The Position

IES Residential is seeking a Residential Underground Technician to perform underground utility installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance. The role involves underground drop installation and repair, field problem-solving, coordination with supervisors, vendors, field personnel, and customers, and assistance with trenching, conduit placement, cable installation, and restoration. The technician is expected to maintain accurate field documentation, follow company and safety procedures, keep tools and work areas organized, and support junior technicians as needed.

This position is based on-site in El Paso, Texas, and work is performed in person at active indoor and outdoor job sites. Work may involve attics, crawlspaces, confined or elevated spaces, changing weather, construction noise, and dust. The role requires travel as operational needs require, dependable transportation, reliable attendance, and the ability to work overtime, modified schedules, or occasional weekends when business needs require. A license is required. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.

Requirements

• Two to four years of experience.
• A license is required.
• Ability to pass pre-employment screenings such as background and motor vehicle record checks.
• English speaking, reading, and writing skills are required where necessary to perform job duties.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders and stairs, kneel, bend, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, and lift throughout the workday.
• Ability to sit for extended periods while driving to and between job sites.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull at least 50 pounds.
• Ability to work overtime, modified schedules, or occasional weekends as business needs require.
• Ability to work on active indoor and outdoor job sites, including attics, crawlspaces, and confined or elevated spaces, with exposure to varying weather, construction noise, dust, and other job-site conditions.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
• Maintain dependable transportation and consistent, reliable attendance.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions within established company policies and procedures.
• Ability to communicate in person, by phone, and electronically using a tablet, smartphone, and other office technology.
• Ability to travel as required to support project and operational needs.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without current or future need for employer sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

• Previous underground utility, construction, field service, or operational experience.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Relevant industry certifications or licenses, where not otherwise required for job duties.

Responsibilities

• Perform underground drop installation, inspections, maintenance, and repair activities.
• Troubleshoot and resolve operational and equipment-related issues in the field.
• Coordinate with supervisors, vendors, field personnel, and customers regarding operational requirements and schedules.
• Assist with trenching, conduit placement, cable installation, restoration, and related operational activities.
• Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to operational and field activities.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and operational procedures.
• Assist with training and supporting junior technicians as needed.
• Maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas in a clean and organized manner.
• Contribute as a team player in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
• Maintain professionalism and excellent customer service at all times.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
