About The Position

The Residential Support Professional advocates for and provides training and direction to individuals in resolving personal problems related to living within the community. This includes assisting with family matters, obtaining prescriptions, grocery shopping, and fostering independence in decision-making. The role requires understanding each individual's diverse needs by reading their Individual Support Plan, participating in support plan meetings, and implementing outlined goals. Progress must be documented and submitted on time. Responsibilities also include transporting individuals to various appointments and events, maintaining a healthy and habitable home environment, preparing meals, ensuring sanitation, and assisting with individual hygiene. Communication with the Program Specialist and other Residential Support Professionals is key, as is assisting individuals in arranging for additional care and services. Household chores, participation in annual training, developing social skills, assisting with recreational activities, and maintaining the residential unit in good condition are also part of the role. Adherence to regulations, non-violent crisis intervention, and other assigned duties are expected.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Hold a valid driver's license and have a good driving record.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent education is required.
  • Maintain a minimum of training hours as determined by the agency.
  • Ability to apply creative problem-solving skills and deal with problems positively in a constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to communicate with a wide variety of individuals and adapt to communication needs as necessary.
  • Apply understanding and problem-solving skills to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Regular work attendance, and report to work as scheduled and on time.
  • Attend one staff meeting each month.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of Everyday Lives and Positive Approaches.

  • Ability to communicate (verbally and written) professionally with individuals at all levels of the organization and external contacts.

Responsibilities

  • Advocate for and provide training and direction to individuals in resolving personal problems related to living within the community.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of each individual’s diverse needs by reading updated Individual Support Plans and participating in support plan meetings.
  • Implement goals as outlined in the Individual Support Plan and document progress.
  • Transport and/or provide transportation for individuals to work, social events, medical appointments, etc.
  • Accompany and provide direction to individuals at meetings, appointments, shopping, work, etc.
  • Maintain a healthy and habitable home for individuals.
  • Prepare healthy meals as chosen and agreed upon by the individuals residing in the home.
  • Ensure a sanitary environment through general cleaning.
  • Assist in maintaining the hygiene of each individual per their needs.
  • Communicate home and individual needs and issues with the Program Specialist.
  • Communicate and work as a team with other Residential Support Professionals.
  • Assist individuals in arranging for additional care and services they may need.
  • Perform household chores as necessary (lawn care, snow shoveling, etc.).
  • Participate in a minimum of 24 hours per year of training.
  • Assist individuals in developing social skills.
  • Assist with or conduct recreational and social activities.
  • Assist in maintaining the residential unit in good condition and in accordance with applicable fire and safety rules and regulations.
  • Attend staff meetings and conferences as assigned.
  • Follow, maintain, and implement applicable regulations.
  • Respond to individual behaviors using non-violent crisis intervention.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
