Requirements
- Completed up to two (2) years of Community College.
- Immunization for Hepatitis B
- Vaccination against Tuberculosis
- WHMIS training
- Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
- Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC)
- Non-violent crisis intervention training
- One year but less than three years of prior related experience including, frontline work in a social service setting (with women/children), life skills and experience in a related field.
- Keyboarding, sitting for long periods of time, and occasionally packing client/resident belongings.
- Continuously monitoring the environment, frequently interacting with clients, attentive listening, and moderate attention when recording information.
- Involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources. May be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. Has very little input into the annual budget.
- Responsible as a group/work leader. Responsible for providing direction and checking results, but generally works along with those supervised. May provide advice on hiring, firing decisions but not other supervisory decisions.

Responsibilities
- Monitors the activities of the clients/residents and maintains availability for personal, practical and moral support; may include providing safe storage and recording of prescribed medications.
- Accurately records day-to-day happenings using appropriate methods; maintains logbooks and completes occurrence reports.
- Provides life skills training (personal hygiene, mental and physical health, communication, anger management, etc.) for clients/residents.
- Acts as client advocate: acts as positive role model.
- Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (e.g. welfare, police, parole, urgent situations).
- Coordinates client care relating to security issues; performs bed checks and room/personal searches.
- Handles the admission, orientation, evaluation of clients’ understanding of rules, and discharge procedures; ensures the ongoing enforcement of policies, which may include client discipline.
- May handle finances relating to room rentals and meal tickets, and receipting of same.
- Answers the program department telephone and records/remits messages.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
