About The Position

As a Residential Officer at the Iowa Department of Corrections, you will be a direct service provider in a 24-hour community-based corrections facility, engaging in high-contact interactions with clients. Your role will be essential in fostering pro-social behaviors and supporting programming that promotes personal growth and reduces recidivism. You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to observe and assess client behaviors, utilizing your communication skills to build relationships and drive positive change. Responsibilities include facility security checks, searches, and client transportation. You will be trained in behavior change techniques such as motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral strategies. Your dedication will extend to supporting case managers and clients in achieving their goals, with a focus on individual needs, disabilities, trauma, and cultural responsiveness. Safety is a priority, requiring preparedness for emergencies, defensive tactics, and life-saving measures. The position emphasizes integrity, ethical conduct, and attention to detail.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school, GED, or equivalency.

Responsibilities

• Conduct facility security checks and searches.
• Transport clients within the community.
