About The Position

As a Residential Officer at the Iowa Department of Corrections, you will be a direct service provider in a 24-hour community-based corrections facility, engaging in high-contact interactions with clients. Your role will be essential in fostering pro-social behaviors and supporting programming that promotes personal growth and reduces recidivism. You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to observe and assess client behaviors, utilizing your communication skills to build relationships and drive positive change. Responsibilities include facility security, searches, client transportation, and employing behavior change techniques like motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral strategies. You will also support case managers and clients in achieving goals, ensuring individual needs, disabilities, trauma, and cultural responsiveness are considered. Safety is a priority, requiring preparedness for emergencies and the use of defensive tactics and life-saving measures. The role emphasizes integrity, ethical conduct, and attention to detail.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school, GED, or equivalency.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Ability to build quality relationships with clients.
• Ability to work in a dynamic and demanding environment.
• Ability to work independently and exercise initiative and judgment.
• Willingness to be trained in effective behavior change techniques.
• Preparedness to respond to emergencies and use defensive tactics and life-saving measures.
