About The Position

Reliant Home Funding is seeking an experienced DE Underwriter to join their underwriting team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience underwriting FHA and conventional mortgage loans in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a strong attention to detail and sound credit judgment. This role requires an underwriter who can balance production efficiency with quality decision-making, communicate effectively with internal teams, and contribute to a positive and solutions-oriented culture.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years of residential mortgage underwriting experience
  • Active FHA DE Certification required
  • Strong experience underwriting FHA and conventional loans
  • Excellent understanding of agency guidelines and mortgage regulations
  • Strong analytical and risk assessment skills
  • Ability to review and calculate complex income scenarios accurately
  • Experience with AUS systems including DU and LPA
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with operations teams
  • Professional, team-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving abilities

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in delegated underwriting environments
  • Knowledge of VA and non-QM products is a plus
  • Experience working in a high-volume retail or consumer direct mortgage platform
  • Professional underwriting certifications are a plus

Responsibilities

  • Review and underwrite FHA and conventional mortgage loan files in accordance with agency and company guidelines
  • Analyze income, assets, credit, collateral, and overall borrower risk profiles
  • Issue clear and well-documented underwriting decisions and conditions
  • Review complex tax returns, self-employed income, and layered risk scenarios
  • Work closely with loan officers and processors to ensure timely loan decisions and efficient workflow management
  • Communicate underwriting decisions professionally and constructively
  • Maintain strong knowledge of FHA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and investor guidelines
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and internal underwriting policies
  • Meet production, quality, and turn-time expectations in a high-volume environment
  • Participate in guideline updates, training sessions, and team discussions
