About The Position

STAR is seeking caring individuals to support adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities in our residential programs. STAR, Inc. is a nonprofit organization based in Norwalk, CT, with more than 70 years of experience providing support to adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities and their families. Our services are centered around helping the people we support live fulfilling, meaningful lives while promoting inclusion, independence, and freedom of choice. As a Residential Instructor, you will play an important role in helping the individuals we support live as independently and actively as possible.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver's license
• Compassionate and respectful approach to supporting others
• Ability to recognize and encourage the potential in every individual
• Positive attitude and strong teamwork skills

Responsibilities

• Assisting with daily living activities such as medication administration, meal preparation, personal care, transportation to medical appointments and day programs, and participation in community activities.
• Implementing individualized behavioral and support plans.
• Teaching, encouraging, and mentoring individuals to develop new skills and work toward their personal goals.
• Learning about individuals' interests, preferences, and abilities to provide meaningful support.
• Accompanying individuals on community outings, recreational activities, and other experiences that promote greater participation and independence.
• Recognizing and reporting health and safety concerns.
• Maintaining complete, accurate, and timely documentation.
