About The Position

Transitional Services for New York, Inc. (TSINY), a not-for-profit, community-based mental health organization, is seeking a Full-Time Housekeeper for its Residential Mental Health Program located in Queens Village, NY. The organization provides a continuum of rehabilitative services to support individuals recovering from mental illness and aims to foster independence. Requirements

  • Driver's License Required
  • High School diploma and ability to complete household cleaning and housekeeping duties (for Housekeeper/Counselor I)
  • Associate’s degree or High School diploma plus one year’s experience in a mental health setting and ability to complete household and housekeeping duties (for Housekeeper/Counselor II)
  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree plus one year’s experience in a mental health setting or High School diploma plus two years’ experience in a mental health setting and ability to complete household and housekeeping duties (for Housekeeper/Counselor III)

Responsibilities

  • Thorough cleaning of all rooms within the Program, including mopping floors, cleaning appliances, washing walls, dusting, vacuuming, and scrubbing bathrooms.
  • Reading the Communication Log in AWARDS and following up as indicated.
  • Assisting residents on an as-needed and crisis basis.
  • Communicating critical information (clinical, safety, maintenance) to the supervisor and via the Communication Log in AWARDS, and notifying the therapist/psychiatrist/program of clinical changes.
  • Documenting scheduled meetings/visits with residents in a progress note and on the Contact Log form.
  • Checking emails and mail, and following up on messages.
  • Submitting receipts for petty cash expenditures.
  • Checking revised staff schedules.
  • Completing and forwarding Incident Reports immediately after occurrence to the Bronx II Program Director.
  • Visiting assigned rooms as scheduled and cleaning them as needed and specified by the supervisor.
  • Scheduling and conducting supervised cleaning visits with each resident.
  • Ensuring sets of room keys are correct, labeled, and stored in the key box in the chart room.
  • Shopping for miscellaneous program needs.
  • Submitting requests for time-off to the immediate supervisor at least two weeks in advance.
  • Visiting residents in the hospital if needed, taking clothing and other items, and documenting all hospital visits.
  • Supervising and assisting residents with ADL functions, such as shopping and cleaning.
  • Attending scheduled trainings.
  • Conducting supervised cleaning meetings.
  • Completing clear and concise progress notes reflecting relevant issues and plans for action.
  • Reporting needs for room maintenance and supplies to the immediate supervisor, documenting maintenance requests, and following up on previous requests.
  • Attending and participating in staff meetings, and reading staff meeting minutes if absent.
  • Thoroughly inspecting the building for safety, cleanliness, proper storage of belongings, adequate maintenance, and supplies, reviewing findings with residents, and formulating and following up on plans for correction.
  • Attending CPR/First Aid Training.
  • Performing other related duties as required.
