About The Position

The Residential Garbage Truck Driver (Equipment Operator) operates trucks to provide waste and recycling collection services across Salt Lake County. The driver follows an assigned daily route, collects refuse and/or recycling, and transports loads to a landfill, transfer station, or recycling facility. Drivers keep equipment clean and in proper working condition, conduct pre- and post-shift inspections, keep loads within legal limits, and follow applicable laws and regulations. The role uses state-of-the-art trucks and offers a rotating four-day work week with 10-hour shifts. The position requires regular climbing into and out of equipment, extended periods of sitting, and work around traffic and potentially adverse environmental conditions. Personal protective equipment is mandatory.

Requirements

• One year of equipment driving experience.
• At least six months of verifiable driving experience in a position requiring a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at the time of hire.
• Valid DOT Medical Card at the time of hire.
• Full range of motion in the shoulders, arms, hands, wrists, legs, and feet.
• Ability to push, pull, or lift up to 100 pounds as necessary.
• Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
• Ability to sit for extended periods and climb into and out of equipment regularly.
• Ability to work while exposed to traffic hazards, inclement weather, noise, dust, fumes, grease, and potentially unsanitary conditions.
• Use of personal protective equipment is mandatory.

Responsibilities
