The Assistant Professor’s primary role is to teach in their areas of expertise, maintain the integrity of course and instructional programs, and ensure delivery aligns with Liberty University’s mission and vision for the student experience. Faculty are expected to create an academic atmosphere of mutual respect and consideration for individual dignity. They may contribute to curriculum development in residential and distance education, conduct research, scholarship, or creative activity as expected by their school, and provide service to students and their professional discipline. Faculty are essential to Liberty University’s mission of Training Champions for Christ. They are expected to model a personal commitment to the University’s goals and values and to engage in personal spiritual formation within a biblically informed Christian worldview. Faculty should treat teaching, student engagement, and scholarship as means to significant educational ends; use varied techniques to support learning; recognize each student as a unique individual; and, where possible, accommodate individual differences, abilities, and interests. Assistant Professors attain rank based on scholarly and professional achievements. An earned doctorate, a terminal master’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant area, or a professional certificate such as CPA is preferred but not required. Assistant Professors are contracted for 10 months (30 hours, respectively). Release from the contracted teaching load is determined each semester by the Dean, in accordance with the Liberty University Faculty Handbook.
