About The Position

The New School is seeking competent Community Assistants to support the daily operation of the residence hall offices during the Fall 2026 - Spring 2027 academic year. Based on needs and talents, this position will assist with graphic design, social media influence, office coverage, answering questions from students and parents, and other duties as assigned. The ideal candidate will be a hard-working student worker able to undertake a variety of tasks, be detail-oriented and creative, use discretion, exude confidence in making decisions, and work well under pressure. The qualified candidate will be able to prioritize their work and will rise to the challenge of incorporating new and effective strategies to achieve the best results. The Residential Education Community Assistant (CA) position at The New School is a position for the duration of the academic year beginning Monday, September 7, 2026 and ending Friday, May 14, 2027. Community Assistants may be asked to work over University Breaks, including but not limited to Winter Break and Spring Break. Community Assistants incoming for the academic year will need to take part in CA Training as scheduled by your supervisor. CAs are required to work a minimum of 10 hours and cannot exceed a maximum of 15 office hours per week. Hours may include weekends if coverage is needed of the office and a CA is available to work. Additionally, hours must be worked between 9 am-5 pm, Monday through Friday.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift packages that weigh at least 20 pounds.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Clear communication skills: listening, verbal & written skills etc.
  • Dexterity, efficiency, and self-motivation to sort large volumes of mail.
  • Good organizational skills, reliable, dependable, and attentive to detail.
  • Ability to complete administrative tasks neatly and legibly.

Nice To Haves

  • Graphic design experience or courses.
  • Ability to use computer software including Google and Microsoft Suite.
  • Experience with Google Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Staff the residential office during your scheduled shift and maintain a visually appealing, clean, and sanitized work area.
  • Administrative tasks including completing paperwork (log, reports, etc), responding to building emails and voicemails, assisting with filing, and other office coverage tasks as needed.
  • Contact Hall Staff regarding emergencies as necessary.
  • Provide excellent customer service in all interactions with residence hall occupants.
  • Conduct tours of the residence hall during your designated shift.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the position
  • General ResHall duties as assigned including but not limited to: Lockouts, Keycard encoding, Assisting professional staff with dorm initiatives including creating marketing events, posting signs, etc.
