About The Position

The Residential Direct Support Specialist (described in the posting as an Enhanced Acuity Technician) provides direct support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or autism who reside at Damar Services. The role includes natural environment training, skills-based treatment, data collection, and intensive intervention services. The employee also assists the treatment team—including the Manager, Supervisor, Director, and other designated members—in evaluating clinical services. The position involves client supervision and care, crisis management, promoting appropriate social behaviors, and helping clients reach their maximum potential. The role is based at Damar’s Richmond campus in Richmond, Indiana, and may involve day, night, or weekend-only shifts with weekend rotation, depending on the position assigned.

Requirements

For work in the Children's Residential program, be at least 21 years old; applicants aged 18–20 are encouraged to apply for other Direct Support Professional roles.
Provide formal proof of a high school diploma or GED.
For positions requiring driving, hold a valid Indiana driver's license and have a driving record meeting Damar's insurance eligibility requirements.
Have no felony convictions, substantiated charges of neglect, or other disqualifying criminal convictions.
Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and physical.
Favorably meet and maintain Damar's background screening.
Meet the physical and mobility requirements of the essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation, including standing or sitting for prolonged periods; occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and twisting; lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds; operating office equipment including a computer keyboard; traveling to other locations; and communicating effectively.
Be able to recognize and respond appropriately to client behaviors and unpredictable situations, including aggression, self-injury, sexually maladaptive behavior, and elopement.

Responsibilities

Provide direct services to children.
Supervise and care for clients and provide crisis management.
Promote appropriate social behaviors and support clients in achieving their maximum potential.
Use natural environment training, skills-based treatment, data collection, and intensive intervention services.
Support clients in completing programming goals, activities of daily living (ADLs), and independent living goals.
Assist the treatment team in evaluating clinical services.
Make in-the-moment decisions regarding Skills Based Treatment.
Complete and update mandatory training and licensure-related items in a timely manner.
Attend mandatory staff meetings and other assigned meetings, conferences, and workshops recommended by the Enhanced Acuity leadership team.
Operate Damar or personal vehicles to transport clients or perform other work-related duties.
Complete incident reports, including reporting suspected exploitation, abuse, or neglect of a client.
Serve as a member of Damar Services’ interdisciplinary team.
Maintain regular and acceptable attendance and respond appropriately to client behaviors, staff instructions, safety concerns, and emergencies.
