About The Position

Newport Mental Health (NMH) is a progressive, high-energy organization that uses a state-of-the-art person-centered recovery approach to help individuals recover from mental illness and substance use disorders. NMH extends its trauma-informed, evidence-based services to children, adolescents, families, and adults. Our services vary from outreach, specialized programs, mental health, school-based therapy, substance use therapy, community-based therapy, and outpatient clinics. We are currently seeking a motivated, caring, and empathetic Residential Counselor to join our team. This position supports the 14 adults residing in our residential group home in Middletown.

Requirements

Exceptional communication skills with the ability to professionally communicate verbally and in writing with a variety of individuals.
Caring and empathetic, with the desire to help others in need.
Self-motivated and independent, with the ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines.
Valid Driver’s License with reliable transportation.
High School Diploma required.

Nice To Haves

1 or more years of experience working in the human services field is preferred.
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.

Responsibilities

Cooking, cleaning, laundry, and organizational activities.
Assist clients with involvement in community connections and activities to expand social networks and community integration.
Work with clients on their identified goals as outlined in their recovery plans.
Work with families and identified supports that can be part of the client’s recovery plan.
Conduct monthly resident groups that focus on health promotion and skill development in various life domains.
Support and assist clients with problem-solving around daily integration into the community such as transportation to appointments, grocery shopping, and other scheduled events.
