About The Position

In a developmental center, under the Department of Developmental Disabilities, this role involves supervising direct care personnel. The position serves as a team member for policy development and implementation of work rules, ensuring compliance with Medicaid standards and labor contract rules. Responsibilities include resolving labor disputes, referring employees to the Employee Assistance Program Coordinator, and overseeing staff training on new policies and procedures. The role also involves monitoring the implementation of Individual Habilitation Plans for individuals with developmental disabilities, completing employee performance evaluations, and ensuring adequate staff coverage through scheduling and assignment of relief, part-time, and overtime staff. Additionally, the position requires reviewing written documentation regarding resident behavior, response, and progress, processing staff incident reports, and maintaining records related to residents and staff time and attendance. Participation in Individual Habilitation Program/Plans meetings, unit managers' meetings, and investigation of major incidents are also key aspects of this role.

Requirements

  • 24 months of training or 24 months of experience in providing care to patients and/or in participating in the development and/or carrying out of patients' habilitation plans.
  • Experience preferably with individuals who have developmental disabilities or mental disabilities.
  • Experience in implementing and carrying out habilitation plans.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises direct care personnel (e.g., Hospital Aide Coordinators, Therapeutic Program Workers).
  • Serves as a team member for policy development and implementation of work rules.
  • Ensures compliance with Medicaid standards and labor contract rules.
  • Resolves labor disputes/matters at the first step level.
  • Refers employees to the Employee Assistance Program Coordinator.
  • Responsible for staff training and in-servicing on new policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Monitors implementation of Individual Habilitation Plans for persons with developmental disabilities to ensure they are followed and carried out.
  • Completes and signs employee performance evaluations.
  • Assures attendance of direct care staff at team meetings to develop/revise Individual Habilitation Plans for their assigned residents.
  • Ensures adequate staff coverage (e.g., schedules and assigns available relief staff, part-time staff, and overtime staff; maintains required minimum staff coverage; aligns relief staff in order of seniority; fills out payroll, overtime, and daily employee work schedules).
  • Reviews written documentation regarding resident behavior, response, and progress as they relate to the Individual Habilitation Plan for each assigned resident (e.g., 30-day/90-day and annual reviews; unusual incident reports; client funds; use of restraints; Medicaid surveys).
  • Reviews requests for clothing purchases and actual purchases or assigns to direct care staff.
  • Reviews and processes staff incident reports and determines whether additional action is needed.
  • Checks staff log books to ensure completeness.
  • Responsible for written documentation regarding assigned residents and checks staff's time and attendance.
  • Participates in Individual Habilitation Program/Plans meetings and attends unit managers' meetings.
  • Reviews restraint records to assure proper procedures have been followed.
  • Completes census reports.
  • Investigates and reports all major incidents.
  • Ensures staff compliance with treatment habilitation plans.
  • Relieves supervisors of other units upon request.
  • Maintains supplies and acquisitions of necessary equipment.
