About The Position

The Residential Academy Coordinator is a full-time, live-in residence life position responsible for establishing and maintaining community and caring for the daily needs of the residential students within the Music and Dance Academy. The RAC, with support from the Director of Student Affairs, Manager of Residence Life, Assistant Manager of Residence Life, and a team of student Resident Assistants, supervises up to 30 high school students. The RAC provides educational instruction on life skills, educational programming, advises and mediates roommate conflict, enforces school policies, and develops student programs. This position reports to the Manager of the Residential Life Department and includes administrative and on-call responsibilities, including weekday evenings, weekends, and holidays. The RAC will also support the Residential Life Department during summer residential programs. Full-time residency on campus in the residence hall is a requirement.

Requirements

  • 2 years or more experience in residence life or similar position.
  • Experience working with minors and adolescents is required.
  • Must maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality of information as it pertains to residents and staff.
  • Required skills include leadership, supervisory, organizational and communication skills, as well as ability to work closely with a team.
  • Must be able to maintain professional boundaries whenever dealing with students and representing the school.
  • Ability to adhere to, administer, and enforce policies and procedures as outlined in the Colburn School Employee Handbook and the Catalog & Student Handbook.
  • Ability to manage budget for small projects and events.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of programs (Word, Excel, and Outlook are required).
  • Ability to interact with students, including providing supervision and social guidance.
  • Ability to work with various departments of the School, including Security, Engineering, Janitorial, Café, Mailroom.
  • Ability to function under pressure in crisis or emergency situations.
  • CPR/AED certification required (may become certified after being hired).
  • Prior to hire, must pass an appropriate background check to be employed by the Colburn School.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor’s degree in Music or Arts Administration/Management is preferred but not required. Combined experience/education and music background may be substituted for minimum education.

Responsibilities

  • Supports student development in various areas including academic support, student groups, health and wellness and social community development.
  • Facilitates the development of a community that is welcoming and accepting of people of all races and ethnicities, abilities, ages, genders, national origins, religions, and sexual orientations and identities, and other legally protected groups.
  • Develops educational programming in areas of living skills, social/emotional learning, and behavioral growth.
  • Participates in on-call rotation weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • Serves in the back up on-call rotation, servicing the Colburn Conservatory and Academy residential population.
  • When On-call, maintains a 10-min walking response time.
  • Provides care and supervision for a variety of direct student support services (e.g., medical appointments, off-campus physical therapy appointments, floor grocery shopping trips).
  • Provides residential supervision and oversight for all academy residential students.
  • Provides supervision for student activities both on and off campus, and participates in events as appropriate.
  • Provides appropriate and timely follow-up to incidents.
  • Serves as a liaison between academy students, Residential Life Managers, and the Deans and administrative staff of the Music and Dance Academy.
  • Submits detailed and accurate incident reports in a timely manner.
  • Builds professional and communicative relationships with departments associated with the success of each student.
  • Responsible for detailed administrative and record-keeping tasks for the care and wellbeing of the student.
  • Instigates and sustains thorough and timely communication with department managers, deans and staff of the academies, and each student’s parents and/or legal guardians.
  • Participates in weekly staff meetings and weekly academy meetings to share information regarding student, staff, and programming.
  • Participates in on-call and administrative duties during all summer programs.
  • Maintains awareness of safety and emergency procedures and responds to emergency/safety situations.
  • Enforces residential policies.
  • Serves as a school representative during non-business hours.
  • Has daily administrative hours.
  • Administrative tasks will be assigned each week depending upon the season and needs of the department.
  • Other assigned duties.
  • Assist RA On-Call with weekly cleanliness checks.
  • Manage room condition reports during move-in and move-out.
  • Conduct building walk-through inspections during move-in, move-out, and breaks.
  • Submit work orders in a timely manner.
  • Work with facilities staff to resolve maintenance issues.
  • Attend and actively participate in all trainings, meetings, and orientations for the position.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Attend one-on-one meetings with reporting managers.
  • Attend all departmental and cross-departmental sessions and workshops, as required.
  • Assist in safety drills.
