About The Position

Homes for Good Housing Agency is seeking a Resident Services Assistant to join their Supportive Housing Division in Eugene, Oregon. This role supports the agency's mission by working within a cross-functional housing team to assist residents who may have special needs, including mental or physical disabilities and/or substance abuse issues. The position involves responding to resident concerns, ensuring community safety in collaboration with building and security staff, and performing duties related to the case management of Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) applicants and residents. The PSH program utilizes a "Housing First" model, aiming to quickly connect individuals experiencing homelessness to permanent housing without restrictive entry barriers.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to the completion of a high school diploma.
  • One year of social services, crisis response, first responder, property management, and/or customer service professional or volunteer experience, ideally in a social service setting.
  • Knowledge of housing program eligibility rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of customer service best practice and problem-solving.
  • Understanding of challenges, opportunities, and concerns of marginalized communities and/or people with disabilities and/or access needs.
  • Familiarity with best practices in crisis de-escalation and trauma-informed care/service delivery.
  • Some familiarity with operations, services, and activities of a building maintenance program.
  • Proficiency in modern office procedures, methods, and equipment, including computers and supporting internet, word processing, and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to exemplify traits reflecting Homes for Good’s culture, including customer service orientation, cultural sensitivity, trust, and collaboration.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various audiences, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand, explain, and enforce Homes for Good’s policy and property rules.
  • Ability to identify community resources available to low-income residents.
  • Ability to become familiar with Oregon landlord/tenant law and pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Ability to effectively deal with emergency situations and remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to self-reflect, recognize signs of trauma exposure, and communicate needs for support to a supervisor.
  • Ability to operate a wide variety of office equipment, including computers and supporting internet, research, word processing, and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents, staff, community partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of residents.
  • Able to work evenings or weekends as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates who are bilingual in English and Spanish are preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is eligible for a bilingual differential of 5.7% upon passing a written and oral proficiency exam.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a customer service representative for the assigned community, answering phone calls and welcoming visitors.
  • Support, interact, and communicate with residents who may have special needs, including mental or physical disabilities and/or substance abuse issues.
  • Answer and respond to resident concerns and questions regarding safety, disturbances, noise, unauthorized guests, or other issues impacting residents or the community.
  • Work closely with supervisors and security staff to ensure resident and community safety.
  • Routinely assess building interiors, exteriors, and perimeters, and maintain shift and security logs, as well as visitor check-in/out logs.
  • Check rooms for cleanliness and readiness, and coordinate vacate cleaning with the maintenance team.
  • Assist residents with dwelling access during lockouts.
  • Respond to building system emergencies such as fire alarms, elevator malfunctions, or water leaks, and report emergency maintenance problems to staff.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties for common areas.
  • Print and distribute community flyers, notices, newsletters, forms, and other information.
  • Assist with program paperwork and updating participant information in tracking systems.
  • Assist residents with maintenance service requests and work orders.
  • Provide clerical and administrative support.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
