About The Position

The Resident Lifestyle Director (Activity Director) provides an ongoing life-enrichment program designed to support residents’ interests and physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being. The role involves planning, organizing, communicating, and coordinating individual and group activities, as well as special events. As part of the management team, the director helps ensure policies and procedures are understood, taught, and implemented. The position oversees hiring, training, and management of activity assistants, coordinators, and transportation drivers, and may oversee the transportation department.

Requirements

• High school degree required.
• At least three years of experience designing and leading life-enrichment activities for seniors in Independent Living, Assisted Living, and/or Memory Care settings.
• Creativity, empathy, patience, and passion for helping others.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, and ability to motivate others.
• Knowledge of computer systems, particularly Excel, Word, and Canva.
• Ability to coordinate and conduct meetings.

Nice To Haves

• Associate degree or higher in gerontology, business, human services, or a related field.
• At least one year of leadership experience in senior living, hospitality, or healthcare management in a supervisory role.
• Training or at least one year of dementia-care experience for memory care communities.
• Previous event-planning experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee life-enrichment activities, outings, and programs based on residents’ needs, both within and outside the community.
• Create and lead arts, crafts, music, drama, educational, and exercise activities.
• Prepare a monthly newsletter and activity calendar, and conduct monthly activity meetings.
• Hire, train, and supervise Resident Lifestyle Assistants, Coordinators, and Drivers.
• Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers when appropriate.
• Encourage resident participation and celebrate residents’ achievements.
• Obtain activity equipment and supplies and maintain organized, accessible storage.
• Work with Marketing to plan events that promote the community.
• Participate with the Executive Director in developing the department budget.
• Encourage family and community support for the activity program through newsletters, networking, and activities that involve families or community members.
• Participate in the community’s efforts to maintain or improve quality of care.
• Coordinate resident transportation to outside events, which may include driving a company vehicle.
