About The Position

The Resident Instructor position involves actively working with clients in a residential setting, both indoors and outdoors. This role requires the ability to lift and transfer significant weight, utilize protective hold techniques, and manage clients who may pose a risk of harm. The instructor is responsible for creating a positive learning environment, developing coping strategies for clients, and facilitating their independence. A key aspect of the role is implementing treatment plans, documenting client progress, and monitoring their physical, medical, and behavioral status. The position also includes administering medication (if certified), following behavioral and dietary plans, maintaining the cleanliness of the home and agency vehicle, and ensuring client privacy. Professional conduct, supervision of family visitations, participation in mandatory training, and conducting community-based outings are also essential functions.

Requirements

  • Valid CT driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Physical Management Training (PMT).
  • First Aid, CPR and Medication Certification. Must obtain CPR and FA within 45 days of hire. Medication Administration Certification must be obtained within 4 months of hire and all staff are required to renew these certifications as needed.
  • Ability to attend all required training and in-servicing.
  • Good to excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Thoroughness and effective follow through on daily work assignments.
  • Display motivation and interest in improving the quality of life for the population served.
  • Demonstrate and maintain an optimistic attitude, patience and compassion for and with the population served.
  • Demonstrate appropriate boundaries with residents and coworkers maintaining a professional demeanor while in the workplace.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s Degree preferred with at least one year experience in the Human Services field.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all job functions required, including lifting and transferring 70-75lbs.
  • Utilize approved protective hold techniques to ensure safety for self, clients, and co-workers, working with youth who may potentially cause harm.
  • Create a positive learning environment and develop strategies to help clients cope with stressful situations.
  • Facilitate independent performance and mastery in daily living areas.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and skills with clients dealing with reactions to past traumatic and emotional events.
  • Assist in the therapeutic process by providing compassion, understanding, limit setting, and a stable living environment.
  • Implement Treatment Plan (DCF) or Individual Plan of Care (DDS) based on assessment.
  • Record data on teaching strategies, behavior systems, and plans.
  • Report clients' progress, needs, and any barriers impeding the process.
  • Maintain and document awareness of current Treatment Plan/Individual Plan of Care for each client.
  • Monitor medical, physical, and behavioral changes in clients daily.
  • Report any and all changes to Supervisor, Program Manager, Clinician, and/or RN.
  • Clearly document any issues in clients’ files and report to DCF/DDS as required.
  • Administer medication to clients at prescribed times in accordance with Medication Administration Policy (when qualified as Medical Certified).
  • Document administration of medication according to policy.
  • Report all errors of medication administration or documentation according to policy.
  • Follow written behavioral and dietary plans for each client.
  • Assist in the preparation of meals and purchasing of supplies.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the home both inside and outside.
  • Assist with all laundry care.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the agency vehicle and report any maintenance needed for the vehicle or property.
  • Maintain CRI’s client right to privacy and adhere to CRI’s Confidentiality Policy.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner when interacting with supervisors, coworkers, consultants, clients and their families, and members of the community.
  • Supervise family visitation as assigned.
  • Participate in mandatory training including in-services, staff meetings, conferences, and other required trainings.
  • Take clients to a variety of community-based outings and recreational activities using an agency vehicle.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
