About The Position

Avenues Recovery Center is hiring counselors for its new inpatient extended care rehabilitation facility in Norfolk, Virginia. The Resident in Counseling provides individualized, evidence-based treatment and therapy to clients recovering from drug and alcohol addiction, oversees the clinical needs and aftercare of an assigned caseload, and works with the treatment team and families to coordinate care. The role also includes responding to crises, maintaining thorough client documentation, and modeling ethical conduct and recovery principles.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, or a related field.
• Valid Virginia state licensure or certification necessary to practice in this role.
• Excellent observational, collaborative, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Compassionate, dignified character that models recovery principles.
• Ability to set strong boundaries and maintain absolute confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Create individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for each client.
• Conduct individual, group, family, and couple therapy sessions.
• Take responsibility for the clinical needs, services, and aftercare of clients on the assigned caseload.
• Prevent, intervene, and de-escalate in the event of a crisis.
• Maintain documentation of client challenges, progress, relapse risk, and interventions.
• Collaborate with the Clinical Director, treatment team, and family to coordinate care.
• Model honesty, accountability, dignity, respect, and recovery principles in professional interactions.
