About The Position
Avenues Recovery Center is hiring counselors for its new inpatient extended care rehabilitation facility in Norfolk, Virginia. The Resident in Counseling provides individualized, evidence-based addiction treatment and manages the clinical needs, services, and aftercare of an assigned client caseload. The role includes individual, group, family, and couples therapy; crisis prevention and de-escalation; detailed clinical documentation; and coordination with the Clinical Director, treatment team, and clients’ families. The counselor is expected to model ethical conduct and recovery principles, including honesty, accountability, dignity, and respect.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, or a related field.
- Valid Virginia state licensure or certification required to practice in this role.
- Excellent observational, collaborative, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Compassionate, dignified character that models recovery principles.
- Ability to set strong boundaries and maintain absolute confidentiality.
Responsibilities
- Create individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for each client.
- Conduct individual, group, family, and couples therapy sessions.
- Manage clinical needs, services, and aftercare for an assigned client caseload.
- Prevent, intervene in, and de-escalate crises.
- Maintain detailed documentation of client challenges, progress, relapse risk, and interventions.
- Coordinate care with the Clinical Director, treatment team, and clients’ families.
- Model ethics, morality, and recovery principles in professional interactions.
