About The Position

Avenues Recovery Center is hiring a Resident in Counseling for its new inpatient detox and residential facility in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The position supports clients in addiction treatment through group counseling, psychoeducation, documentation, and coordination with clinical staff. The counselor helps clients build coping skills and recovery tools while monitoring their progress and escalating significant concerns to the Clinical Director.

Requirements

• Valid licensure to practice as a clinician in Virginia: CSAC.
• Excellent interpersonal, observational, and communication skills.
• Strong presence and sound judgment.
• Warm, dignified, and honest character that inspires trust and models recovery principles.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, or a related field preferred.
• At least one year of experience in the treatment industry preferred.
• If in recovery, at least one year of sustained sobriety is required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct group therapy, psychoeducation, and process groups tailored to clients’ challenges and needs.
• Help clients develop healthy coping skills, positive behaviors, and recovery tools.
• Collaborate with clinical staff to track client challenges and progress.
• Escalate significant client concerns to the Clinical Director.
• Maintain thorough documentation of group sessions.
• Ensure clinical assessments and individual client charting are completed.
