About The Position

The Resident Director (RD) serves as a live-in professional responsible for developing and sustaining a vibrant, inclusive, and values-based residential community aligned with the mission of Assumption University, a Catholic institution grounded in the principles of the Assumptionists. The RD plays a vital leadership role in student development, residential programming, crisis response, and community building, while fostering an environment rooted in Christian values, academic excellence, and personal growth.

  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to the mission and Catholic identity of Assumption University, with the ability to articulate Catholic teachings as they relate to ethical student development.
  • Dedication to fostering an inclusive, just, and equitable residential environment.
  • Proficiency with common administrative software and digital tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, support, and evaluate a team of Resident Assistants (RAs), including one Head Resident Assistant.
  • Assist in RA recruitment, selection, and training processes.
  • Foster a supportive residential environment through programming, hall initiatives, and one-on-one student engagement.
  • Monitor student behavior and well-being, providing support or referrals as needed.
  • Participate in the RD on-call rotation to respond to student emergencies, policy violations, and crisis situations.
  • Maintain a visible and accessible presence in the residence hall community, especially during evenings, weekends, and major campus events.
  • Monitor room changes, maintenance requests, and facility needs.
  • Conduct Health & Safety inspections and manage related documentation.
  • Coordinate hall openings, closings, and break coverage.
  • Maintain regular office hours and respond promptly to student concerns.
  • Meet weekly with the Assistant Director and monthly with the Director of Residential Life.
  • Attend weekly Residential Life team meetings and departmental in-service trainings.
  • Partner with various campus departments, including Student Engagement and Leadership, Counseling Services, Campus Recreation, etc. to support holistic student success and retention efforts.
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under Clery Act regulations.
  • Act as a Responsible Employee for Title IX reporting.
  • Serve as the primary hearing officer for any Community Standards violations within the assigned residential area.
  • Assist with Board Hearings as necessary for Community Standards cases
