About The Position

The Modular team builds first-of-a-kind modular data centers on a production line, turning what is normally a construction project into a manufactured product. The Resident Controls Engineer will engineer and check out the controls of the modular product on the line, including PLCs, BMS integration, sensors, and I/O, owning every point from panel to termination. This role requires living on the Phoenix manufacturing line, walking the floor daily, catching wiring and I/O issues at the station where they happen, and dispositioning them on the spot. The engineer will run point-to-point checkout, loop checks, and first-article functional tests in person as units come down the line, with results documented well enough to stand behind at handoff. They will own real-time controls support for the factory, answering controls RFIs same-day from the floor and engineering fixes into the next revision, not a punch list. A key aspect of the role is closing the loop to design by feeding what the line learns back into wiring diagrams, logic, and the BOM so the same defect never ships twice.

Requirements

  • Engineered or commissioned controls systems hands-on: PLC, BMS, or industrial automation, from integrators, BMS contractors, or data center commissioning firms
  • Done point-to-point checkout and loop checks on real panels at volume, not just reviewed them on paper
  • Worked on a shop floor or production line, and dispositioning a nonconformance in the moment is familiar work, not an escalation
  • Supported production launches or startups of systems you helped build, and stayed until they ran
  • Iterate fast without losing configuration control: when the drawing, the wiring, and the logic disagree, you can isolate which one is wrong and keep the line moving while it gets fixed
  • Write the logic, then stand at the cabinet proving every point
