R&D Engineer

GE Vernova•Greenville, SC
•$80,000 - $120,000

About The Position

The R&D Engineer designs new fluid and mechanical accessory systems and equipment for gas turbine power plants as part of research and development programs. The role works with engineers across GE Vernova—including technical experts, Platform, Configuration, and Product Management teams—and with suppliers to develop innovative, sustainable designs that follow the R&D process. The engineer creates and uses tools, sizes and designs equipment, and analyzes products to ensure they meet requirements. The position supports project-driven R&D from preliminary assessments for tendering bid packages through development and project execution. In the Plant Mechanical Engineering organization, the engineer contributes to new product development focused on sustainable power and quality. The work is broad, cross-functional, and variable, with design responsibilities extending from engineering launch to field validation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Mechanical, Process, Chemical, or Aeronautical Engineering.
  • At least 2 years of experience in Mechanical and Fluids Engineering and/or quality in the Power, Aeronautics, Chemical, or Automotive industry.
  • Lean- and quality-oriented culture.

Nice To Haves

  • Passion for innovation and product development in the gas turbine combined-cycle space, with comfort handling uncertainty and differing perspectives from technical experts.
  • Experience with mechanical, process, thermal, and fluid-flow analysis tools; ability to handle 3D models and read schematics and diagrams.
  • Data-driven analytical skills, ability to design products with a focus on safety and quality, and ability to lead Lean continuous improvement.
  • Ability to break complex problems into achievable timelines with deliverables and stakeholders or approvers, and drive prompt resolution.
  • Excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, self-motivation, balance, and ability to work as a team player in a multicultural environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design next-generation gas turbine power plant products and accessories from engineering launch through field validation, prioritizing safety, quality, delivery, and cost in that order.
  • Follow the R&D process and manage milestones; develop designs with relative autonomy, obtain validation from peers and technical leaders, present designs to reviewer boards, and close action items.
  • Develop and implement controlled design and analysis tools and methods to improve standard work and reduce cost of poor quality.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering and program management teams, the Chief Engineering Office, manufacturing engineering, and external suppliers to develop cohesive designs.
  • Support tendering bid packages for non-standard requests through high-level preliminary analysis under the guidance of technical leaders.
  • Support root cause analysis leaders and help execute corrective actions on existing designs.
  • Work across partner organizations to improve variable cost and increase use of standard products to improve quality and delivery.
