Requirements

  • Must be able to work Monday-Friday, 4pm-12am (8-hour shifts), 40 hours weekly.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid & Clean New York State Driver’s License (actively licensed a minimum of one year) required.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent ethical judgment, maintain strict client confidentiality, and communicate effectively in writing.
  • Proven ability to engage empathetically and respectfully with individuals from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and developmental backgrounds, including but not limited to a broad range of people with various developmental and functional levels.
  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) experience or formal training.
  • Ability to complete pre-employment background check requirements, including NYS Child Care Background Check (CBC) fingerprinting.
  • Staff in driving positions must be able to meet the agency’s minimum requirements of our insurance policy for authorized drivers including, but not limited to, the minimum age of 21 at time of hire; with the ability to maintain insurability throughout employment.

Nice To Haves

  • College degree in Human Services or related field preferred.
  • Active CPR and First Aid certifications is a plus!
  • Prior experience working within a human services or residential shelter environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with Capital Region social services and community support resources is beneficial.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Meet), alongside secure Internet practices.
  • Professional record of integrity, proven reliability, dependability, and the positivity and flexibility needed to adapt to day-to-day changes in client needs.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain professional, supportive relationships with residents while strictly upholding personal boundaries and organizational policies.
  • Conduct routine interior and exterior safety rounds to maintain a secure, healthy, and clean property; report maintenance needs and follow up as necessary.
  • Accurately record family interactions, critical incidents, intakes, and case progress notes in alignment with agency report logging standards.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution, offer de-escalation/mediation, and step in during crisis situations as needed.
  • Guide families through the intake-to-discharge continuum, by equipping residents with the information and tools needed to make informed daily decisions and build self-determination.
  • Safely transport clients in agency vehicles across the Capital Region based on families’ needs.
  • Guard sensitive client/agency information and champion resident rights at all times.
  • Maintain active CPR/First Aid certification and participate in required professional development.
  • Maintain open communication with leadership, proactively share feedback/concerns, and contribute to the maintenance of a “client supportive” and respectful community.
  • Carry out additional position-related duties as assigned by the Director of Housing.
