About The Position

Desk Assistants (DAs) play a vital role in the development of the residence hall community and supporting students in their time at Yavapai College. Desk assistants create a welcoming environment and help support the clean and safe living space in the halls. DAs will support the Residence Life office by greeting each resident, loaning hall equipment, answering residents’ questions, providing assistance with room lockouts, maintaining the security of the residence halls, and assisting in other duties, as assigned, based on department/resident need. This position will gain marketable work experience by working with Yavapai College staff, faculty and affiliates in a group effort to support the mission, goals and values of Yavapai College.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
  • All hiring documents must be completed prior to first work shift, including acceptable documentation for the I-9 Form
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population
  • Exhibit patience and a positive attitude
  • Demonstrate reliability and good customer service skills
  • Demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate time management and organizational skills, and ability to complete a variety of tasks on immediate or extended timelines
  • Demonstrate integrity and trustworthiness in interacting with others and will college property
  • Maintain work area in a clean and organized manner
  • Adhere to the code of confidentiality in certain cases where discretion should be used
  • Adhere to and be an example of behavioral expectations in the Yavapai College Code of Conduct as well as FERPA guidelines
  • Have a strong understanding of technology and the ability to use it effectively and efficiently
  • Must have the following skills/characteristics: leadership, dependability, initiative, enthusiasm, discipline and willingness to grow both personally and professionally
  • Must be available to be scheduled during the desk hours, according to student schedule, including a minimum of 8 hours at the front desks in the halls. Management may request other hours in special circumstances.
  • Must attend DA Training
  • Must uphold and adhere to the policies in the Housing Handbook
