About The Position

Join TAE Technologies’ Neutral Beam Physics Team in the Fusion Power Research Division. This research-track position reports to the Director of Neutral Beam Physics and offers a growth path in Neutral Beam Physics. The role supports the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and development of neutral beam injector electrical systems and related equipment on C-2W and on positive- and negative-ion neutral beam test stands. It also contributes to diagnostic-system build-out and works closely with operations, controls, engineering, and physics teams. The researcher leads assigned projects, prepares technical materials, maintains laboratory infrastructure, and follows safety protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Physics, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience maintaining, repairing, or operating industrial, laboratory, semiconductor, accelerator, plasma, vacuum, or similar electromechanical equipment.
  • Ability to safely test, troubleshoot, and repair AC/DC circuits, power supplies, relays, contactors, breakers, fuses, transformers, capacitors, resistors, inductors, sensors, and basic control circuits.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and maintenance procedures.
  • Proficiency with DMMs, clamp meters, oscilloscopes, hi-pot/insulation testers where authorized, and other diagnostic instruments.
  • Basic understanding of PLC, interlock, and control systems, including the ability to trace I/O signals through schematics.
  • Comfort removing and installing components, valves, cooling lines, fittings, cables, connectors, and hardware, and performing alignment and assembly work.
  • Strong lockout/tagout (LOTO) practices and a disciplined approach to high-voltage and stored-energy hazards.
  • Safety awareness for compressed gases, vacuum equipment, hot surfaces, cooling systems, and laboratory operating procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems of the nine MW-class neutral beam injectors on C-2W, including high-voltage pulsed power circuits, power electronics, capacitor banks, PCBs, and low-voltage diagnostic and control circuits, as well as supporting vacuum systems and ion source hardware.
  • Modify existing circuits and design, build, and test new low- to high-voltage electronic circuitry as needed.
  • Provide operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting support for the positive- and negative-ion neutral beam test stands.
  • Support diagnostic build-out for the C-2W upgrade and neutral beam test stands, contributing to the design and testing of new or upgraded diagnostic systems with scientists and engineers.
  • Lead current and new projects as assigned by the group leader.
  • Work closely with operations, controls, engineering, and physics teams.
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations for internal meetings, project reviews, and scientific conferences.
  • Maintain laboratory infrastructure while following safety protocols.
  • Promote TAE Core Values, Rules of the Road, and Culture of Safety.
