About The Position

FPInnovations is seeking an Engineer for its Transportation & Infrastructure team, a group of energetic, highly skilled researchers and technicians based in British Columbia and Québec. The team provides road engineering innovations that generate value for industrial members, provincial and federal government partners, and contracted clients. Our vision is to provide superior service to our traditional forest sector clients and extend our services to other resource and transportation sectors. Our research deals with the construction and maintenance of resource roads and water crossings, the environmental impacts of road infrastructure, the interaction between roads and heavy vehicles, road safety issues, and climate change impacts and solutions for infrastructure. The Engineer will be tasked to work closely with our members and partners to develop and support delivery of our various research programs across Western Canada.

Requirements

  • A degree in Civil or Forest Engineering
  • At least 3 years of relevant industry experience
  • Hold a licensed professional engineer certification (P.Eng.) or in process

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree
  • Knowledge of road engineering programs (e.g., RoadEng, CAD) and GIS applications
  • Willingness to travel throughout Canada and work in the field, often in remote locations, up to 20% of the time
  • Valid driver's license

Responsibilities

  • Evaluation of innovative road subgrade construction techniques for unpaved roads
  • Environmental impacts of forest road infrastructure
  • Road maintenance management and life cycle costing
  • General knowledge of bridge structures and geotechnical engineering
  • Hydrological engineering, culvert sizing and design
  • Road design and analysis of road geometry for heavy vehicle configurations
  • Foundation design for drainage structures on weak soils (e.g., designing with geosynthetics and soil stabilization)
