About The Position

Working with Professor Sarah Marzen, the Research Technician will perform a variety of duties to optimize engineering of hybrid adaptive networks. This role involves testing new theoretical tools to understand reservoir computers, extending collaborative tools into deployable software, and explaining findings to collaborators. The technician will also advise undergraduates, open-source code, and produce publications for journals in biophysics and applied mathematics. Active support for the College’s Principles of Community and Institutional Values is expected.

Requirements

  • Ability to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact with a faculty, staff, and other members of a college community.
  • Ability to process large amounts of information and manage multiple deadlines efficiently and accurately.
  • Strong computer skills, preferably with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word), LaTeX, and Python or some other scientific computing software.
  • Strong communication skills, including writing scientific papers and giving scientific presentations.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Workday is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Test new theoretical tools to understand how reservoir computers work.
  • Extend previously written collaborative tools into deployable software.
  • Explain findings to others so that the findings can be incorporated into understanding the hybrid adaptive networks engineered by University of Maryland collaborators.
  • Advise undergraduates in an effort to complete these projects.
  • Open-source any code produced.
  • Produce publications describing findings for top journals in the field of biophysics and applied mathematics.
  • Active support for the College’s Principles of Community and Institutional Values in the performance of job duties.
