RESEARCH TECHNICIAN III
About The Position
As a Research Technician III, you will play an essential role in advancing scientific discovery within a collaborative laboratory environment. You will partner with investigators and team members to support innovative research in neuroscience and related fields while contributing your technical expertise and curiosity. In this role, you will independently and collaboratively perform complex laboratory experiments while supporting the overall success of the research program. You will apply critical thinking, scientific knowledge, and technical precision to generate high-quality data and ensure smooth lab operations.
Requirements
- Completion of a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other science-related field.
- Two years of research experience.
- A related master's degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis (e.g., a two-year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience), OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Buy@Duke procurement system
- At least 3 years of experience in neuroscience, neuro-oncology, or oncology research
- Experience with cell culture, tissue sectioning, immunofluorescent staining, and microscopy
- Experience managing or supporting laboratory operations
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of laboratory experiments in support of research objectives
- Prepare tissue samples for immunohistochemical analysis, including sectioning, staining, and imaging
- Culture and maintain mammalian cell lines, including cryopreservation and recordkeeping
- Analyze proteins using Western blot techniques
- Conduct DNA and RNA purification procedures
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment
- Manage laboratory inventory and order supplies
- Maintain accurate records of experiments and results
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety and biosafety protocols
- Train and support new lab members and students
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe laboratory spaces
- Perform additional related duties as needed
