About The Position

The employee will work as a Medical Research Technician in the Molecular Virology Sequencing Core, Serology Unit, at the Tulane National Biomedical Research Center. The employee will be responsible for performing diagnostic assays, in Biosafety level 2 laboratories (BSL2), in adherence with the Standard Operating Protocols (SOPs) in place. The candidate should be able to work independently under minimal supervision. The candidate will also be responsible for equipment and general laboratory maintenance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (BS)
  • 0-2 years of laboratory experience required
  • Familiarity with basic computational tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.
  • Ability to work well with team members and willingness to learn and take direction.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to complete and pass successfully the required occupational health screening referenced in the University’s Animal Handler Health Surveillance Program on an annual basis.
  • Selected candidates must complete and pass a background check and an occupational health screening as a condition of employment.
  • For identified jobs, a drug screening will also be required.
  • The background investigation required occupational health screening, and any required drug screening will be conducted after a conditional employment offer has been extended.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of work experience in serological and/or molecular assays.
  • Understanding and experience with specialized laboratory equipment, e.g., Bio-Plex, microplate reader, real time PCR systems.

Responsibilities
