Works under the supervision of Dr. Paula Hernandez in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Conducts basic science research, sets up and operates lab equipment, prepares materials, performs experiments, records data, and analyzes results. Contributes to developments and project requirements, determining objectives, and managing objectives. Prepares reports and presentation-based results. Ensures the operational condition of scientific equipment through maintenance and condition. May be required to perform other lab-related duties as assigned. The Hernandez Lab studies sex differences and the effect of sex hormones in articular cartilage biology and mechanobiology. The ideal candidate will learn how to work with human samples, perform cell culture, RNA isolation, qPCR, Western blotting, cryosectioning, histology, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, and atomic force microscopy. Previous experience in some of these techniques is desirable. We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate that works well as part of a team as well as independently.
