About The Position

This entry-level research technical role participates in planned research projects by performing research protocols, experimental procedures, and other laboratory tasks under direct supervision. The Pluripotent Stem Cell (PSC) Core within the Center for Cellular and Molecular Therapeutics at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is seeking a highly motivated Research Technician II. This position provides hands-on support for core services involving human pluripotent stem cells, including iPSC culture, differentiation workflows, and CRISPR-based gene editing, in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment. The successful candidate will be exceptionally detail-oriented, organized, and committed to thorough documentation to support reproducibility and core operations. This role will focus on routine maintenance and expansion of PSC/iPSC lines, execution of differentiation workflows as needed, and participation in CRISPR gene editing and downstream screening/validation support. Strong note-taking, sample tracking, and organizational skills are essential.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED - Required
  • At least one (1) year of related classroom experience or successful completion of a technical training program (eg. Wistar, WPSI) and research laboratory experience - Required
  • Intermediate understanding of lab procedures, protocols, and equipment.
  • Basic exposure to lab specific experiments / techniques and scientific analysis

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and expand PSC/iPSC cultures (routine culture, passaging, cryopreservation, thawing, QC support)
  • Perform differentiation workflows as needed (neural lineage experience is a plus)
  • Execute CRISPR gene editing–related tasks (e.g., preparation, delivery support, and coordination of downstream clone screening/validation workflows as appropriate for the core)
  • Follow established SOPs and contribute to protocol optimization when appropriate
  • Prepare reagents, maintain inventory, and support ordering/supply management
  • Maintain shared lab/core spaces, equipment logs, and general lab organization
  • Communicate effectively with core staff, investigators, and trainees; support core users as needed
  • Maintain excellent documentation: clear experimental notes, sample labeling and tracking, data organization, and accurate records in electronic and/or paper notebooks (per core requirements)
  • Performs routine tests / experiments under the direction of principal investigator, supervisor or other designee
  • Performs research procedures on experimental samples as directed
  • Records and checks experiments/ results for completeness and accuracy
  • Performs calculations and maintains appropriate log and lab notebooks
  • Performs tasks that require familiarity with fundamental techniques and lab equipment
  • May assist with planning specific research protocols and procedures
  • Maintains office, lab area, solutions, reagents, supplies and equipment, disposes of specimens, media and other materials (using appropriate procedures)
  • Assists in care and maintenance of lab equipment
  • May coordinate schedules of tests and procedures
  • Attends courses, seminars, and lab meetings to expand knowledge of research and laboratory techniques
  • Records results, organizes data and maintains lab notebook in an organized manner
  • Compiles and helps analyze data, prepares charts, graphs, and results of studies as directed
  • Conducts literary searches as directed
