The Electron Microscopy Resource Center (EMRC) offers state-of-the-art instruments and expertise to support scientists with a broad range of electron microscopy (EM) studies, including sample preparation, transmission and scanning electron microscopy image acquisition, and interpretation. The EMRC staff assists with experimental design, choosing appropriate approaches, and interpreting results. Basic services include sample preparation for various experimental models (bacteria, yeast, cells, ants, C. elegans, Drosophila, zebrafish, mice) using conventional chemical fixation, microwave techniques, high-pressure freezing, and freeze-substitution. Services also include semi-thin and ultra-thin sectioning, staining, and EM imaging. Advanced services encompass immuno-labeling at the EM level, correlative light and electron microscopy, and protocol development for special research needs. Researchers can be trained on instruments and methodologies, or EMRC staff can perform experiments. The EMRC serves both University and non-Rockefeller University researchers, capacity permitting. This role involves conducting electron microscopic sample preparation and imaging, as well as performing general lab, administrative, and housekeeping duties.
