About The Position

The Research Specialist III will function as Laboratory Supervisor and manage day-to-day research operations for the Miao Laboratory in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology. The position will support a new cardiovascular biology laboratory focused on cardiac development, cardiomyocyte maturation, and heart disease mechanisms using mouse models, tissue-based assays, molecular biology, cell culture, and advanced imaging. The Research Specialist III will coordinate laboratory setup and routine operations; manage mouse colony workflows; perform and support independent experiments; maintain equipment, supplies, samples, and records; assist with lab safety procedures and SOPs; and train laboratory personnel in approved techniques, documentation practices, equipment use, and animal-related workflows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Two (2) years of directly related research laboratory experience
  • At least one (1) year of experience as a laboratory technician or in an equivalent research laboratory role.
  • Strong organizational, management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Standard laboratory techniques and laboratory safety protocols.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
  • Proficiency and demonstrated experience in mouse colony management and genotyping workflows.

Nice To Haves

  • College-level coursework in chemistry and biology.
  • Experience supporting developmental biology, tissue regeneration, mouse genetics, or related biomedical research programs.
  • Experience with mouse colony management, genotyping, tissue collection, and coordination of animal research workflows.
  • Experience with embryo/tissue dissection, histology, immunostaining, microscopy-based sample preparation, and related embryo/tissue analysis workflows.
  • Experience with fluorescence and/or confocal microscopy, image acquisition, basic image analysis, and related imaging workflows.
  • Experience with laboratory operations, ordering, inventory control, vendor coordination, equipment upkeep, data organization, safety documentation, and routine workflow coordination.
