About The Position

The Research Specialist B performs diagnostic testing on avian and mammalian samples, including molecular assays such as PCR and sequencing and virus isolation. The role also assists with serological testing as needed. It requires strong communication and computer skills, as the computer-based laboratory information management system is used to accession, result, and finalize case results. The position is contingent upon grant funding and is located in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, where public transportation is unavailable.

Requirements

A Bachelor of Science degree and 1 to 2 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
Strong communication skills.
Strong computer skills.

Responsibilities

Accession, result, and finalize cases in the computer-based laboratory information management system.
Prepare samples for diagnostic testing.
Perform real-time PCR and sequencing assays for various avian and mammalian pathogens.
Complete required quality assurance tasks.
Perform basic housekeeping and maintain laboratory inventory.
Participate in required onsite and offsite training and proficiency testing.
Assist with serological testing when needed.
