About The Position

The Department of Ophthalmology has an opening for a 1.0 FTE research services information sciences professional. This position will be working in the exciting and dynamic fields of deep learning and medical imaging. The main focus will be to collect, structure and analyze medical imaging data (e.g., ophthalmology, radiology and pathology) to assist in identifying health markers for specific disease states. The role will work with the Division of Artificial Medical Intelligence within the Department of Ophthalmology of University of Colorado School of Medicine, to develop solutions to cutting-edge clinical questions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field
  • A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • One (1) year of data management and bioinformatic analyses experience
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field
  • Two (2) years of experience analyzing data using high-performance computing
  • Strong knowledge of basic statistical principles relevant in medical research
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches
  • Demonstrated fluency in one or more programming languages (e.g., R, Python, Perl, Java, C++) and willingness to learn new programming languages as necessary
  • Familiarity with statistical analytical concepts and methods
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders in the area of bioinformatics and data analysis
  • Perform scientifically rigorous data management and bioinformatic analyses
  • Develop and disseminate a variety of tools designed to access relevant clinical and sample data
  • Assist Team Leads with creation and implementation of processes and procedures and quality improvement initiatives
  • Collect information to determine feasibility, recruitment and retention strategies. Employ, evaluate and assist with the implementation of innovative solutions to maximize recruitment and retention
  • Perform informed consent process or ensures that the informed consent process has occurred, is properly documented, and that informed consent form documents are filed as required
  • Interview prospective subjects for a variety of research clinical trials. Educate potential subjects on the details of the studies through phone contacts and personal interviews
  • Performs ophthalmic testing including protocol specified refraction, visual acuity, tonometry, pachymetry, perimetry, imaging and vitals
