The Mathew Lab investigates how systemic cytokine signaling and host inflammation shape CD8 T-cell differentiation, antitumor immunity, and responses to cancer immunotherapy. By integrating human clinical studies with mechanistic mouse models, the lab uses high-dimensional flow cytometry, single-cell transcriptomics, multiplex proteomics, and in vivo CRISPR screening to identify cytokine programs that promote durable immune priming or drive terminal T-cell dysfunction. The Department of Immunology and Microbiology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus offers a highly collaborative environment for studying fundamental and translational immunology. Team members benefit from close connections among basic scientists, clinicians, and the broader cancer-research community, as well as access to advanced technologies, shared research resources, seminars, and professional-development opportunities. The Mathew Lab combines ambitious, rigorous science with a supportive and enjoyable team culture. Lab members are expected to be dependable, work thoughtfully, and take ownership of their projects, while receiving mentorship and opportunities to develop new experimental and analytical skills. We value curiosity, open communication, collaboration, and camaraderie—and believe that excellent science and having fun as a team should reinforce one another.
