About The Position

Applicants responding to this job posting are applying for a position in the laboratory of Dr. Zachary Clayton, an Assistant Professor in the Division of Geriatric Medicine within the Department of Medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and a member of the Colorado Cancer Center. Dr. Clayton’s research program is translational in nature and is primarily focused on cardio-oncology, such that his group employs studies of cells, mice and human participants to understand how cancer and common cancer therapeutics (i.e., chemotherapy and radiation) influence the cardiovascular system. The desired applicant will have experience in cardiovascular health-focused studies in both human participants and mice and demonstrate a track-record of seeing projects through to completion. The selected applicant will be joining a collegial, collaborative and high-paced team-focused research environment. Moreover, this individual will be expected to contribute intellectually to the research environment in Dr. Clayton’s laboratory and provide insight on future research directions proposed in grant applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field.
  • A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Knowledge and understanding of federal regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g. EMR or EHR and data management systems).

Responsibilities

  • Support human research participant recruitment and study visits for an ongoing clinical study of young adult lymphoma survivors.
  • Process human biospecimens including blood and endothelial cell biopsies.
  • Support ongoing preclinical mouse studies, including exercise monitoring, drug delivery, dissections and assessment of vascular function.
  • Assist with biochemical assays including immunoblots, PCR and histological analyses.
  • Aid in the development of COMIRB and IACUC amendments, continuing review and renewals.
  • Contribute intellectually to laboratory meetings and journal clubs.
  • Provide support on projects with Dr. Clayton’s collaborators.
