About The Position

This position is within The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute. The role involves supporting scientific investigation into cancer, conducting experiments independently, and performing various molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques. Responsibilities include managing laboratory activities, assisting with data analysis and reporting, and training junior staff and students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a biological, health or other related science field or equivalent experience required.
  • Requires successful completion of a background check.
  • Qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and support scientific investigation to study cancer as directed in the Comprehensive Cancer Center.
  • Independently conduct assigned experiments.
  • Perform a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures, Western analysis, FACS.
  • Process tissue and blood samples.
  • Handle live mice and maintain colonies.
  • Test and evaluate current procedures.
  • Record, consolidate, and assist with the analysis of research results.
  • Assist in evaluating the validity of data obtained from experimental procedures.
  • Summarize data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts.
  • Prepare research progress reports.
  • Assist the principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts.
  • Conduct library research on requested topics through researching current literature.
  • Oversee and maintain accurate records of laboratory activities.
  • Assist with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation.
  • Set up and operate laboratory equipment.
  • Monitor research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiate procurement requests as needed.
